Rabbi Chaim son of Ya’akov (the 2nd ) was the son of Rabbi Chaim Abulafia the elder. He was born to a well respected family in Chevron.
As a child he moved to Jerusalem and studied in the Beit Ya’akov of Rabbi Moshe Galanti, who was the chief rabbi of Jerusalem. The “Pri Chadash” studied in this yeshiva as well. Rabbi Chaim was ordained to be a teacher and was sent to teach Torah and serve as the city’s rabbi. He was sent to Turkey and Greece to be a “Shali’ach” (rabbinical emissary) and was elected to be Izmir’s chief rabbi. Rabbi Abulafia was very influential in this position, even among the non-Jewish general population.
He passed away in 1744 and is buried in Tiberias.
