The Rambam was born in Kordova, Spain. After a while he moved to Egypt, where he served as the governor’s doctor.

He wrote many books, among them: “Moreh Nevochim” (“Guide for the Perplexed”) and “Mishneh Torah”, (a book summarizing all the Jewish laws.) This book is also named “The Yad Ha’Chazakah” from the word “Yad” – 14 in Hebrew, since it includes 14 books.

The Rambam wrote “Sefer Ha’Mitzvot” (“The Book of Mitzvot”) as an introductory book to “The Yad Ha’Chazakah”. This book includes all 613 “Mitzvot” (Jewish commandments).

The Rambam passed away in 1204. A famous saying magnifying his greatness is: “Ever since Moses (the leader who led the people of Israel from Egypt), there has not been another one like Moses (Maimonides, the father of the Rambam)”.
